Product Description

Solid Copper Ground Rod for Substations & Critical Earthing Systems

Avantar's solid copper ground rods are made from 99.9% pure electrolytic copper, so they have the same level of conductivity and corrosion protection all the way through the rod, not just on the surface. These rods are made to meet the standards of IEC 62561-2 and UL 467. They come in lengths ranging from 1.2 m to 3 m and widths ranging from 1/2" to 1". The ends can be either pointed or threaded. Because the surface coating doesn't break down underground, a common way that copper-clad steel alternatives fail isn't present.

What Is a Solid Copper Ground Rod?

A product is an electrode for grounding that is made entirely of high-purity electrolytic copper. As opposed to copper-clad-steel rods, the rod is made up of 99.9% copper all the way through, from the outside to the inside. There is no steel base and no bonded coating layer.

This design gets rid of the chance of the coating coming off or the core being exposed in harsh underground conditions. When there is a fault, the rod releases leaking current into the ground, which lowers the touch voltage and step voltage at the installation point.

Key Features

Full-body 99.9% pure copper construction

Not a steel heart. Not any surface treatment. The conductivity and corrosion resistance are the same across the whole cross-section. This is important in high-resistance or chemically active soil, where the surface coatings on clad alternatives tend to wear off quickly.

No scheduled surface maintenance

Since there is no covering to wear away, the rod doesn't need to be checked or replaced on a regular basis because of surface wear. The material itself, not a bonded layer, determines how well it works.

Pointed or threaded end options

Pointed ends allow for direct driving into the ground. Rods with threaded ends can be joined together to make grounding grids that go deeper. This is useful for substation and industrial earthing plans where a single rod length doesn't go deep enough.

UL 467 and IEC 62561-2 standards are met

Within the same product line, rods are made to meet both international and North American standards, so they can be used in both types of projects.

Typical Applications

  • Substation earthing grids — handles high fault-current discharge requirements
  • Data centers and telecom facilities — low-resistance grounding for sensitive equipment
  • Chemical earthing systems — compatible with bentonite and conductive backfill compounds
  • Industrial electrical installations — earthing in corrosive soil environments
  • Renewable energy projects — solar farms and wind turbine grounding networks

Custom Design Options

Avantar can make changes based on your drawings, site details, or tender requirements for OEM and ODM. You can choose the rod's diameter, length, and end configuration so that it fits the design of your grounding grid. For projects that need non-standard driving ends, custom tip profiles are available.

For substations or big infrastructure projects, our engineering team can look at your soil resistivity data and grounding layout and tell you what rod sizes and coupling configurations will work best. It is possible to make custom orders that meet IEC 62561-2, UL 467, or other standards for a specific market. Before mass production, samples can be tested.

How to Specify?

To confirm the right rod specification, provide these four parameters:

  1. Rod diameter — 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", or 1"
  2. Buried length — standard range 1.2 m to 3 m; deeper grids use threaded coupling
  3. End configuration — pointed for single-rod driving; threaded for multi-rod series connection
  4. Compliance requirement — IEC 62561-2 for international projects or UL 467 for North American markets

If you have soil resistivity test results or a grounding grid layout drawing, share them with our team and we will confirm whether single-length or coupled-rod configurations suit your site. Standard MOQ is 100 pieces per model, with a 7–15 working-day production lead time.

Package

Quality Assurance & Certifications

Avantar manufactures solid copper ground rods at our Guangdong facility. The production process covers electrolytic copper material cutting, threading, pointing, dimensional inspection, and conductivity testing — all performed in-house.

Each export shipment is accompanied by a certificate of origin and UL 467 and IEC 62561-2 test reports for customs clearance and tender submission. Pre-shipment quality validation options include trial batch orders for lab testing, copper purity and conductivity records review, finished-goods video inspection, and third-party witness inspection for large-scale projects.

Quotations are available under EXW, FOB, and other standard trade terms. Sea freight and air freight are both supported from our location near Shenzhen and Guangzhou ports.

FAQ

Q: When should I choose these items over copper-clad steel rods?

A: Solid copper rods are good for projects that will be in soil that is very corrosive or that need to last a long time without needing to be inspected again. The rod is made of 99.9% copper all the way through, so there is no layer that can wear off, peel, or break down underground. Rods made of copper-clad steel can lose their coating over time. This leaves the steel body open to corrosion and can make ground resistance higher.

Q: Do you make things or do you trade?

A: Avantar is a direct manufacturer. In-house electrolytic copper cutting, threading, pointing, dimensional inspection, and conductivity testing are all done at our Guangdong factory. Sourcing directly gets rid of the price that comes from middlemen and lets you get direct technical advice for projects like substations and data centers.

Q: What are the most important details I need to make sure I have for corrosive-soil or transformer projects?

A: Make sure you know the rod's diameter, its effective buried length, its end configuration (pointed or threaded), and the standard you want to meet (IEC 62561-2 or UL 467). When the soil has a high resistance, threaded-end rods let multiple rods connect and reach deeper grounding grids. Send us your soil resistivity data, and our engineering team will help you figure out what size to use.

Q: What quality documents and certifications can I get before I place a bulk order?

A: Each shipment has a certificate of origin along with test reports for UL 467 and IEC 62561-2. You can check the quality by getting a test batch to be tested in a lab, looking at records of copper purity and conductivity, asking for a video inspection of the finished goods, or setting up an inspection by a third party for large infrastructure projects. Before placing a large order, you can email [email protected] to ask for samples of the paperwork.

Q: What is the minimum order quantity, wait time, and packing information?

A: In general, the MOQ for each model is 100 pieces. The lead time for catalogue items is between 7 and 15 business days after the order is confirmed. Anti-oxidation bundles or wooden boxes are used to pack goods so that the surfaces don't rust while they're in transit. Full export paperwork is given to help with customs processing.

Q: Can the length and shape of the rod's tips be changed?

A: Yes. You can get rods with different lengths and shapes of tips based on your plans or project requirements. We can handle both OEM and ODM orders. Send your technical needs to [email protected], and we'll let you know if the project is possible and how long it will take to complete.
