Product Description

Preformed Armor Rods And Deadend Grips for Overhead Lines

Preformed Armor Rods And Deadend Grips from Avantar are helically pre-formed overhead line hardware designed to protect ACSR, AAC, and AAAC conductors. Galvanised steel or aluminum-clad steel wire is used to make them. The conductor cross sections range from 16 mm^ to 600 mm^, and they can be put in place by hand without any tools. The helical shape evenly distributes tensile stress along the full length of the contact. This reduces surface wear, vibration fatigue, and damage to wire strands at the suspension and dead-end points.

What They Are and Where They Are Used?

The items are line fittings, in helical shape, used at key stress areas of overhead transmission and distribution lines. The wire body, which is pre-twisted, wraps around the conductor to anchor it, cushion contact with hardware, and absorb cyclic bending stresses from wind-induced vibration.

Typical areas of installation are suspension clamp locations, dead-end tension anchor points, guy-wire tensioning points, and vibration-damping sections. They are also utilised for emergency circuit repair and line strengthening work where a rapid, no tools solution is needed.

Key Features

Protection of the Conductor Surface

The helically wrapped wires create a cushion layer between the conductor and the clamp hardware that avoids direct metal on metal contact that creates abrasion or scoring on the conductor strands.

Uniform Stress Distribution

The tensile tension in the gripping sections is distributed evenly over the entire helical contact length minimising the possibility of localised stress concentrations and strand breaking.

Vibration Fatigue Reduction

The pre-formed grip reduces cyclic bending forces due to vibration caused by wind, one of the main reasons of conductor fatigue failure on overhead lines.

Secure Under Load Holding

Both the armour rod and deadend grip types are designed to hold their grip position during extreme stress and storm loading situations. Wire material and conductor size specific are the slip-load values – send us your conductor datasheet and we’ll suggest a setup.

Wide Conductor Range

It is compatible with ACSR, AAC and AAAC conductors from 16 mm2 up to 600 mm2. It covers most of the distribution and transmission line layouts.

Tool-less Hand Installation

Hand installs on site in pre formed helical shape. no specific equipment like crimping tools, hydraulic presses, etc.

Custom Design Options

Avantar supports OEM and ODM customization for preformed armor rods and deadend grips based on your project requirements. Configurable parameters include:

  • Conductor diameter and type — helical dimensions are pre-formed to match your specified cable size
  • Wire material — galvanized steel for standard overhead line environments, or aluminum-clad steel for corrosion-sensitive installations
  • Product length — adjusted to your required grip length and installation conditions
  • Application function — suspension point protection, dead-end anchoring, or vibration damping

To start a customization request, provide your conductor specification sheet, installation purpose, and required quantity. Our engineering team will confirm a recommended configuration based on your inputs.

Lead time for custom configurations is 10–20 working days after order confirmation.

How to Specify?

When placing an order or requesting a quote, confirm the following five parameters to ensure the correct fit:

  1. Conductor type — ACSR, AAC, or AAAC
  2. Conductor cross-section area — within the 16 mm² to 600 mm² range
  3. Wire material — galvanized steel or aluminum-clad steel
  4. Required product length — based on your installation design
  5. Application type — suspension protection or dead-end tension anchoring

Matching the fitting to your conductor diameter is important. A mismatched size can result in slipping or surface damage to the conductor strands. If you are unsure, share your conductor datasheet and our technical team will confirm the correct specification.

FAQ

Q: What kind of protection do products offer?

A: They protect the conductors from fatigue from the wind, from abrasion of the surface from contact with the hardware, and from the accumulation of localised stress at the suspension and dead-end points. The helical design spreads the load over the entire contact length instead of a single point, which reduces the likelihood of strand breakage over the service life.

Q: Is Avantar a manufacturer or trade company?

A: Avantar is a Guangdong, China-based manufacturer. All the steel wire drawing, helical pre-forming, galvanising, dimensional inspection and mechanical slip-load testing are carried out in-house. Direct ordering means faster engineering communication and shorter lead times for grid renovation and tender projects.

Q: What do I need to verify when placing an order?

A: Check conductor type (ACSR, AAC or AAAC), conductor cross section area (16-600mm2), wire material (galvanised steel or aluminium clad steel), product length required and if the component is for suspension protection or dead-end anchoring. Your conductor datasheet lets us check the correct arrangement.

Q: What certifications and documents are included?

A: Products meet the requirements of the quality management system ISO 9001 and IEC 61284 standard for overhead line hardware. Each shipment is accompanied with certificate of origin and IEC test reports. We provide sample testing, finished goods video inspection and third party witness inspection on request.

Q: What is the delivery time and packing?

A: Standard and custom products will take 10-20 business days after the order has been confirmed. Goods are bundled in bundles or wooden cases to prevent bending of the helical wires during transport. International trade terminologies like EXW, FOB etc. can be used to provide Quotations.

Q: Can we take samples before big orders?

A: Yes. Samples for examination are provided prior to bulk purchase. 4. They can be used for slip-load and grip-force testing, for verifying galvanising quality and helical dimensions, and for confirming fit against your conductor standard before you commit to full production quantities.
